Officer Josh Magdaleno and "K-9 Rocco"
K-9 “Rocco” is a 60 lb male Dutch Shepherd who was born in
Holland, and came to the United States in April of 2006 as a two
year old.  Rocco is one of six patrol K-9’s on the Elk Grove Police
Department Canine Unit.

With his keen sense of smell, sight and hearing, Rocco is
trained to locate or track hidden suspects and search for
missing people.  Rocco is currently being cross-trained in
narcotics detection.  When Rocco is at work, his job is to protect
his handler, Officer Josh Magdaleno.

Officer Magdaleno has over 12 years of Law Enforcement
experience, with assignments in work release, corrections,
patrol, school resource officer, mounted enforcement, and
currently canine.  Rocco is Officer Magdaleno’s first canine
assignment, and has been assigned to the Canine Unit since
April of 2006.

Canine Rocco and Officer Magdaleno often compete in K-9 trials
throughout the year to demonstrate their abilities in searching,
obedience, agility, and handler protection.

While off-duty, Rocco lives at home with Officer Magdaleno and
his family.  Rocco likes to watch Animal Planet, play ball and go
for long walks.
